The long-awaited DTV allotment plan was released by ISED (Innovation, Science and Economic Development) today. The plan contains a list of 792 analog and digital stations with their existing channel assignment and their allotted channel. Of those 792 transmitters, 170 (21.5%) are planned to have a new channel. Of the 170 planned changes, 80 are existing digital transmitters and 90 are analog transmitters. The allotment plan can be found here.
For broadcasters, the task to study the impact of the allotment plan on their respective operations begins. Broadcasters might have questions such as:
- Is it possible to move to a more desired channel or remain on an existing channel?
- If the channel remains the same, will interference increase?
- How will the accompanying digital television (DTV) transition schedule impact operations?
